About Us · Est. 1989
We abide by our values
in everything we do
Barnstoneworth United — the Barnies — has carried the Barnstoneworth spirit in Melbourne's west since 1989. Everyone plays, everyone belongs.
Our story
The name and colours of Barnstoneworth United come from the UK television series Ripping Yarns, created by members of the original Monty Python team, including Michael Palin and Terry Jones.
In the episode Golden Gordon, a struggling English football club named Barnstoneworth United is revived when a group of retired former players reunite to restore the club's pride and passion. The story celebrates loyalty, humour, the enduring love of football and values that strongly reflect our own.
Inspired by this tale, Barnstoneworth United clubs now exist around the world. In Australia, clubs can be found in Sydney, the Central Coast, Adelaide, Tasmania, and Melbourne.
Formed in 1989 by a group of veteran footballers, the Melbourne club proudly carries on the Barnstoneworth spirit.
True to its origins, our traditional kit features long sleeves and shorts worn below the knee, a nod to the team that inspired our name.
